Choosing a DEK gas spring

Separate the part code, hood position, geometry and force specification before accepting a proposed replacement for a DEK printer hood support.

DEK 03IX Gas Spring Front, PN 211151 03ix; source-listed identification reference only

Start with the part code

A printer hood that no longer behaves as expected creates a service question before it creates a purchase order. Preserve the machine model, revision, exact hood position and observed problem. A catalogue photograph cannot identify the cause or establish the specification needed for a replacement.

The 211151 gas-spring reference illustrates the distinction. One seller describes it as a front support for a DEK 03IX. That is a useful ordering lead, but it is not proof that every hood on every printer in the same broad series uses the same spring.

Record the hood position

Build one identification record for each position: full installed marking, printer revision, front or rear location, both end fittings and the mounting points. If a label is unreadable, retain that uncertainty rather than assigning the code from a similar-looking photograph.

When the supplier proposes a different code, ask for the cross-reference and its application scope in writing. A grouped listing or a shared colour does not establish equivalence. This matters when quotations describe a bare spring, a spring with fittings and a complete mounting assembly as though they were the same purchase.

Compare the specification

Bansbach documents force, stroke, installation length, connecting parts and damping as separate design variables. These explain why a length-only or force-only comparison is incomplete. They do not supply the values for a DEK 211151 or prove that Bansbach made a particular reference item.

  • Ask for the documented installation dimensions and stroke, with the measurement reference stated.
  • Match both end fittings and confirm whether they are included.
  • Obtain the required force and damping specification for the actual hood application.
  • Have the responsible service team assess the proposed part against the applicable machine documentation.

Do not fill a missing value by measuring a web photograph. Do not choose a higher force merely because a hood no longer stays where expected. The service assessment and the application specification must decide the replacement.

Define the quotation scope

Send the identification record with quantity, required condition, destination and the evidence you need to accept the item. Ask the supplier to state the complete offered code, maker, included fittings and the basis for its machine-specific match. Keep any unresolved difference visible in the quotation.

Compare suppliers against that same scope. A low price for a bare cylinder cannot be compared directly with a complete assembly, and a reference photograph is not an assessment of the item that will be supplied. A useful quotation closes an identified gap; it does not replace the technical match with an assurance that the part is suitable for SMT.

Set the service boundary

This article helps prepare an evidence-led purchase. It gives no force-adjustment, disassembly, mounting or functional-test procedure. A hood support is part of a larger mechanism, so replacement and acceptance must follow the applicable printer and component instructions through qualified service.

Use the pneumatics catalogue to keep related functions separate, or prepare a parts enquiry with the installed code and hood-position record. A request starts a specification check; it is not a claim of stock, fit or a completed inspection.

Technical sources and catalogue examples

General manufacturer guidance explains the variables that define a gas spring. The separate catalogue example identifies a DEK ordering reference; neither supplies an approved replacement specification for your printer.
