“Tested” needs a defined scope
A service handover that says “valve changed and tested” leaves the next shift with several unanswered questions. Which valve was replaced? Was its connection checked, did the relevant function operate, and was leakage assessed? A replacement record is useful only when another responsible person can determine what was actually done.
Agree the required evidence with the authorised maintenance team before the intervention. This article proposes a documentation structure. It does not instruct an operator to energise equipment, release pressure or perform a pneumatic test.
Read the applicable manufacturer boundary first
SMC’s VQD1000 manual assigns pneumatic maintenance to qualified personnel. It addresses power and pressure isolation before maintenance, appropriate functional and leakage checks afterwards, and connection checks when electrical connections have been disturbed. These requirements frame the handover; they do not supply a universal test sequence for every SMT machine.
Confirm that the exact valve and installation are covered by the instructions being used. A supplier’s Samsung-machine application title is not enough to establish that relationship. Machine-specific safeguards and the responsible team’s applicable procedure still govern the work.

Keep four records separate
- Identity and work: machine, actual head or circuit position, removed and fitted designations, and the authorised work performed.
- Procedure and responsibility: the applicable instruction or approved job reference, who performed the work and who assessed the restart.
- Observed outcomes: record functional and leakage checks separately, with the actual conditions and method required by that procedure.
- Decision: the acceptance basis, conclusion, unresolved items and the person responsible for any follow-up.
Blank fields should remain unresolved. Do not convert an absent leakage record into “no leaks” simply because the machine completed one motion.
Connect the record to the actual replacement
The VQD1151W-5L reference retains a readable package beside a wrapped valve. It can help explain the requested designation, but it is not the identity or inspection record of a delivered replacement. Keep actual offered-item markings and the installation record independently from catalogue media.
The N510054843AA illustration shows a group of modules. If only one position is serviced, record that position rather than attributing a result to every item visible in the group. Also keep a returned sample or package associated with its job when the applicable procedure permits it.
Make a missing result an explicit next action
If a required result is unavailable, identify what remains to be assessed and who can complete it. A purchasing colleague may be able to recover a missing invoice or package reference; they cannot supply a maintenance acceptance decision. Likewise, a seller’s bench-test statement does not establish the installed circuit’s performance.
Ask for a record of the relevant method and outcome rather than a generic certificate headed “tested.” If supporting measurements are provided, retain their stated conditions and applicability. This article invents no leakage limit, response time, operating pressure, voltage or pass threshold.
Close the job without losing its limits
The final handover should let the next responsible person distinguish an accepted intervention from an incomplete one. Keep the original symptom, the work performed and the post-work observations in separate fields; a symptom disappearing does not retrospectively prove which component caused it.
Retain the accepted replacement reference for a later reorder, together with any unresolved application questions. This does not create a maintenance interval or permission to modify or disassemble a valve. Follow the exact product and machine instructions, and refer decisions outside the documented scope to the responsible service team.
