Compare the family variants
Compare the complete part numbers, revisions and documented specifications. Similar appearance does not establish interchangeability.
| Variant | Part number | Compatibility | Specifications |
|---|---|---|---|
| NSL | NSK GRS NSL | NSK describes this formulation for precision motion applications. A particular SMT machine lubrication point is not approved here. |
|
| NS7 (unpictured) | NSK GRS NS7 | A separately named formulation in the same manufacturer catalogue. No substitution for NSL is established. |

Understand this reference
Application and identification
NSK’s retained E3317 catalogue identifies NSL as an 80 g purple-tube grease, with lithium-soap thickener and a synthetic-hydrocarbon/ester base oil. It describes anti-fretting and low-torque characteristics in high-speed use. NS7 is separately named in the same catalogue; a similar cartridge format does not make it the same formulation. The reference image is an unchanged embedded NSL packaging photograph from printed page 9. It carries no Yamaha ordering sticker, so a Yamaha K48-M3856 code is not inferred from it.

Match the installed part
The family page groups related variants; it does not imply that variants are interchangeable.
- Identify the required lubrication point and the applicable machine/service reference before specifying NSL.
- Keep NSK GRS NSL distinct from NS7 and from any machine-specific purchasing code.
- Request offered-package identity and available batch/storage evidence; confirm the pump and nozzle arrangement independently.
03 / Make a useful decision
Selection and replacement advice
Start with the machine’s documented lubricant requirement, then ask the supplier to retain both the formulation name and any machine ordering reference on the quotation. If a K48 reference is proposed for this NSL supply, require a documented cross-reference rather than treating a supplier search title as OEM confirmation. Compare formulation, pack format, quantity and actual label evidence separately. A pump that accepts an 80 g cartridge is not automatically suitable for every 80 g package; connector, bellows format and applicable instructions also matter. The catalogue does not authenticate an offered tube or establish its storage history.
04 / Care and handling
Maintenance and handling guidance
Retain the existing lubricant identity and application record. If an old cartridge is unlabelled, do not determine its formulation from colour alone.
Use the applicable machine and lubricant instructions for handling, quantity, interval and any change of formulation. No mixing, purging or universal lubrication schedule is authorised here.

Stock, authenticity, condition, test results and interchangeability require separate evidence. A family photograph cannot prove them.
05 / Before you ask
Questions about this family
Does the purple tube prove the grease is NSL?
The manufacturer uses purple for its NSL catalogue reference, but colour alone cannot authenticate an actual tube or its contents.
Can NS7 replace NSL?
No replacement approval is given. The catalogue names them as separate formulations.
Does this page prove a Yamaha K48 ordering-code equivalence?
No. That cross-reference needs its own applicable evidence; the manufacturer photograph does not carry that machine order code.
